For a kid who loves sports, playing in college can be a goal they hope to achieve.
That dream is being fulfilled for one Sioux Falls teen who's faced hardships that have kept her off the court.

Lexi Valentine, 14, is the newest member of the Augustana women's volleyball team.

Lexi has a rare disorder called HIDS.

Because of it, she has constant joint pain that prevents her from playing sports. But a nonprofit called Team Impact connected her with the university.

She signed with the volleyball team Tuesday.

"I think it's exciting to be part of the team," said Valentine.

"We're only as strong as the community that supports us and having Lexi on the team is a big part of that. We've got some local girls on our team and to add one more is always a plus for our volleyball team, said Dan Meske, Augustana Volleyball Coach.

Lexi will attend Augie volleyball practices, and you'll find her on the sidelines at their games.
