SIOUX FALLS -

It’s Giving Tuesday around the world, a time to help others or donate to charities.  One organization that could use help year-round is Dakota Dachshund Rescue.

Its biggest needs are monetary donations to pay for medical care and food for the 25 dachshunds they currently have.  You can donate on the rescue's website, by mail to DDR or in person at Your Pet Stop in Sioux Falls.

If you'd like to adopt a dog, the rescue's process is thorough, they visit the homes of potential owners to make sure the person, couple or family are a perfect match with the dog.  What also makes the rescue unique is the dogs aren't all staying in one facility.  They stay in foster homes until they find a forever home.

“All these dogs are vetted, they're all in homes they're all being treated as somebody's pet at this point.  Our foster homes are key to us because they help us get to know the dogs better with fewer dogs in each place,” says DDR President & Founder Diane Wade.

The nonprofit organization has a couple events coming up.  There’s a Meet & Greet for potential adopters December 17 from noon to 2 p.m. at Your Pet Stop.  Also, the 10th annual Sioux Nation Wiener Dog Races at the Sioux Falls Stampede game is just a few months away, it’s Saturday, February 18.
