PLATTE, S.D. -

Nearly one year after the murder-suicide involving the Westerhuis family in Platte, their items will be sold to the public.

Multiple auctions are in place for next week to sell both personal items as well as property.

An online only auction will take place on September 12th with items such as gym equipment and home theater gear.

Large property, such as jet skis and the forty acre estate, itself, will be auctioned on September 16th.

The auction will be held in Platte by Weimen Land and Auction.

Last month, a judge ruled that the Westerhuis family's remaining property could be sold to pay off creditors.

Authorities say last September, Scott Westerhuis shot and killed his wife Nicole and their four children before setting their home on fire and committing suicide.

They say Westerhuis killed his family hours after learning that Mid Central Educational Co-op, where the couple worked, was losing a $4.3 million Gear-Up contract.

Authorities believe Scott and Nicole Westerhuis stole more than $1 million dollars from the co-op before their deaths.

An open house is planned for the property Wednesday evening from five to seven in Platte.
