A Sioux Falls driver escaped serious injuries in a bizarre crash that left a vehicle overturned on the sidewalk.

Police say the driver of the 1993 Chevy suburban was driving on River Boulevard near the intersection of E. 18th Street and S. Southeastern Avenue, when the vehicle crossed over lanes and crashed into the pedestrian barrier.

The crash caused the vehicle to flip on its side, and become wedged.

The driver was uninjured and issued a citation for careless driving.

In order to get the car out, crews had to remove part of the railing.

At the request of the city engineer the pedestrian walkway will be closed until the damage which occurred to the walkway can be repaired.
