A local activist and a former City Council member have filed a civil lawsuit against the Sioux Falls City Clerk.
Bruce Danielson turned in more than 6,000 petition signatures last week to force a special election on funding for a new city administration building. City Clerk Tom Greco invalidated the signatures, saying they were filled out on the wrong form. Danielson admits this was a mistake, but now he and former councilor Kermit Staggers want a judge to order that the signatures were collected in good faith and require Greco to certify the petitions.
“We want to vote. We want to get this thing done and not play any more games. We just want to get it done,” Danielson says.
Danielson says if the judge rules in his favor, he'll ask the court to stop the city from selling bonds for the administration building until a special election takes place.
Greco says he hasn't been served with the lawsuit yet.
A court date hasn't been set yet in this case.
