The southwestern Minnesota city of Marshall will host the 2017 Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener.
The announcement was made Friday night during a community banquet at this year's opener event, which is being hosted by Montevideo.
Gov. Mark Dayton notes that this will be the second time that Marshall has hosted the governor's pheasant opener, which he initiated in 2011.
Dayton pulled up on one pheasant Saturday but couldn't shoot it because the bird was a hen, but Lt. Gov Tina Smith bagged her first pheasant.
Marshall was selected through an application process that considered hunting land in the area, facilities and community support.
