A Sioux Falls organization is teaming up with law enforcement to show support for victims of domestic violence.
The Minnehaha Family Violence Council and local police put purple ribbons on patrol cars Monday, since “October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month”. The council says these ribbons send an important message to the community when police are responding to dangerous situations.
“I think that community needs to know what a difference they are making and that they're behind the stopping and making of domestic violence and the silence behind it too,” says council president Paula Smykle.
Outfitting cars with ribbons comes just a week before the "Take Back the Night" event on Oct. 13 where community members will discuss domestic violence.
