A Sioux Falls man is behind bars after police say he kidnapped a 15-year-old girl and sexually assaulted her Wednesday night.

Police say Jason Marquis Becker, 34, began following the Lincoln High School student Wednesday afternoon as she was walking to a friend’s house after school. He reportedly asked the victim if she wanted a ride and followed her for a period of time, before grabbing her and putting her into his SUV. Police say he locked the doors and held onto the victim while they drove to his apartment in the 900 block of S. Newcomb Ave.

Authorities say Becker then carried her inside his apartment, where he sexually assaulted her.

"The whole time he had her there she didn't feel like she could leave," said Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sam Clemens today. "She was scared of what he was going to do to her."

Later that evening, Becker reportedly told the victim he was going to a friend’s house and left the apartment. The victim fled the building, sought help from a man walking his dog nearby, and called police from a gas station.

Clemens said that the victim was able to remember where the apartment was located. Police arrested him there around 9:30 p.m.

Becker is charged with 2nd and 4th degree rape, as well as kidnapping. He is expected to appear in court this afternoon.
