A Minnehaha County jury has convicted a Sioux Falls man on multiple charges, including first degree manslaughter.
David Leonard Randle, Jr., 21, was found guilty of charges stemming form the October 24, 2015 shooting death of 19-year-old Mikael Ashame.
Ashame died at a Sioux Falls hospital after being struck by a gunshot from an AK-47 at a townhome on W. Briggs Dr.
Minnehaha County State's Attorney Aaron McGowan says an investigation revealed that Randle had been handling the weapon at the time it accidentally discharged. Randle had been drinking and using several controlled substances and, according to several witnesses, was behaving recklessly with the gun prior to the shooting.
Circuit Court Judge Bradley Zell ordered a pre-sentence investigation to be completed prior to sentencing, which will be set at a later date.
