SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -

A man suspected of murdering his mother and a 7-year-old boy at a Sioux Falls trailer home is in custody.

According to Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead, 24-year-old Heath Otto was arrested at 6200 North Cliff Avenue, trailer 128 Sunday afternoon after an officer responded to a panic alarm at the trailer.

Milstead says when additional officers arrived on scene, they found two people dead inside. Carol Lynn Simon, 48, and a 7-year-old boy may have sustained strangulation and knife wounds, leading to their deaths according to Capt. Jason Gearman with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office. Otto faces two counts of first-degree murder.

Gearman says that Otto is the son of Simon and was a temporary resident at the trailer. He would not comment on the relation of the child to Otto.

Milstead says that Otto made some comments  to an officer who saw him on scene that were concerning, leading him to suspect Otto committed the double homicide. Authorities believe that Otto set off a home alarm system installed at the trailer, which automatically notifies police. Gearman says that there is no evidence of a break-in.

Autopsies are currently being conducted. The investigation is still on going.
