CHADRON STATE

No. 22 Augustana volleyball (5-0) opens the Augustana Invitational Friday morning with a 3-0 victory over Chadron State (25-18, 25-19, 25-14) at the Sanford Pentagon.

Augustana and Chadron State played to a 5-5 tie early in set one before Augustana was able to string together seven of the next eight points to gain a 12-6 advantage. Chadron State was able to get back into the match late getting three points in a row to make it 21-15, but Augustana was able to hold off the Eagles attack pulling out a 25-18 set one victory.

Augustana used the momentum gained from set one to earn the first five points of set two. Chadron State was able to stop the streak, but Augustana remained on the gas pedal. Midway through the second set Chadron State got to within four points making it 16-12, but that was the closest they would get the rest of the match as Augustana earned a 25-19 set victory.

Just like in set two Augustana raced out to an early 6-0 lead before Chadron State was able to get on the board. The Vikings went on to extend their lead to 11, running away with the set 25-14 and closing out the match for their first sweep of the season.

Bailey Koch had a great opening to the Augustana Invite earning 10 kills with a season-high hitting percentage of .444. Koch added four blocks assists to her stats for a total of 12 points.

SOUTHERN INDIANA

No. 22 Augustana improved to 6-0 on the young season after a straight sets victory over Southern Indiana in the night cap of the Augustana Invitational Friday.

The Vikings got out of the gate quickly against the Screamin' Eagles, earning five of the first six points. Southern Indiana didn't stay down for long though, battling back to make it 7-5 in favor of the Vikings. The set remained close at 11-9 until the Vikings decided to go on a run 6-0 run making 16-9. Southern Indiana wasn't able to get any closer than five before the Vikings won the set, 25-17.

Southern Indiana had their only lead of the set in the early going as they earned the first point of the set. The lead was short lived as Augustana was able to put together four quick points to take a 4-1 advantage. The Screamin' Eagles kept it close, eventually tying the set at nine but the Vikings used a 5-0 run to shut the door on Southern Indiana. Augustana went on to win the set 25-15.

In the final set of the match Augustana again jumped out to an early lead before USI was able to claw back and take a 6-5 lead. The Vikings didn't allow the deficit to last long by taking the lead and extending it to 11-7. USI brought the score to 12-11 before the Vikings took control and put the match out of reach. The Vikings won the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

Viking of the Game
Hanna Justesen had an all-around stellar match for the Vikings earning a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. This was Justesen's fourth double-double of the season. Justesen also had two blocks and a service ace in the match.
