University of South Dakota junior quarterback Chris Streveler (Crystal Lake, Ill.) has been named the MVFC Newcomer of the Week as announced Sunday by the conference office. It’s the second time this season Streveler has earned the honor.
Streveler passed for 182 yards, ran for 128 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in South Dakota's 28-25 win against 11th-ranked UNI Saturday inside the DakotaDome. Streveler averaged 10.7 yards per carry against the nation's fourth-best run defense and averaged 22.7 yards per completion. He took the third play of the game 69 yards for a score and a 7-0 lead. He also threw touchdowns of 75 and 29 yards to Tacari Carpenter, and used a 63-yard bomb to Alonge Brooks to set up a 10-yard touchdown run by Trevor Bouma.
Streveler has accounted for 18 of the Coyotes’ 21 touchdowns this season. He leads South Dakota with 830 yards passing and 490 yards rushing. USD travels to Indiana State Saturday before returning home Oct. 22 to host Illinois State.
Dakota Wesleyan quarterback Dillon Turner is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Turner, a senior from Salem, Arkansas, accounted for 606 total yards, including 204 yards of rushing on 22 attempts and a touchdown. Through the he completed 31-of-39 passes for 402 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Turner's 402 passing yards came just shy of Jon Bane's record of 457 passing yards, which was set in 2012. Dakota Wesleyan, ranked No. 16, travels to Concordia this weekend for a 1pm kick off.
