SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -

A return to the Rushmore State couldn't shake the struggles of the South Dakota State men's basketball team.

After jumping out to a 12-3 lead against UC-Irvine the Jackrabbits went cold, giving up a 25-6 run and shoot just 14-55 (25.5 percent) for the game in a 63-51 loss on Friday night in their first game at the Sanford Pentagon Showcase.

The loss drops the defending Summit League champions to 1-5.

Mike Daum was the only consistent force for SDSU.  The redshirt sophomore scored a game high 23 points while pulling down 17 rebounds.  Reed Tellinghuisen added 11 points and A.J. Hess scored 10.

Jaron Martin led Irvine with 17 points.

SDSU continues the Pentagon Showcase tomorrow against East Tennessee State at 4:30.
