Sioux Falls native Shannon Johnson was the medalist in the stroke play portion of the Women's U.S. Mid Amateur in Erie, PA. That meant she was the top seed for the match play portion of the competition.

She rolled to a 5 & 4 win in her first match Monday and really turned it on Tuesday winning 2 more matches by scores of 5 & 3 and 3 & 2, advancing to the round of 8. If she wins twice on Wednesday Shannon, who now lives in Boston, would advance to Thursday's championship match. Johnson is a 12-time SDGA state champion.
