South Dakota volleyball player Audrey Reeg has been named the October Summit League Female Athlete of the Month, which was announced by the league office Tuesday. This is the first such honor for Reeg, who has been named the Summit League Athlete of the Week three times.
“This is just another well-deserved honor,” said South Dakota head volleyball coach Leanne Williamson. “I think one of the best things about Audrey, is that she would be the first to tell you that she couldn’t have done it without her team. She continues to push herself to get better each day.”
Reeg collects volleyball’s first-ever Athlete of the Month award since the Coyotes joined the Summit in 2011 as she helped South Dakota to a 7-2 record during the month. She led USD in kills per set and total blocks and was second on the team in digs per set. She averaged 4.13 kills and 3.67 digs as the Coyotes swept six matches. She recorded six double-doubles during the month, including an 18-kill, 16-dig performance that led South Dakota to a 3-2 victory over Fort Wayne after starting the match down 2-0.
Reeg swatted down 19 kills in matches against IUPUI and Omaha. She hit .300 or better in six matches, including a .457 clip at Omaha. Defensively, she tallied double-digit digs in eight of the nine matches and recorded 4.0 blocks against Denver and 3.0 verses Omaha. Her efforts played a key role in South Dakota achieving its best start (10-2) in Summit League play and reaching the 20-victory plateau for the first time at the Division I level.
South Dakota is home for the final two games of the season and hosts Denver Friday at 6 p.m. and South Dakota State Saturday at 6 p.m. for Senior Day.
