FRIDAY! Our final Friday of April, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. More of the clouds and cold out there today with temperatures that were 10 to 15 degrees below our average for this time of year, and we even saw some sprinkles and showers in some spots. Skies continue to stay cloudy, but I don’t expect that to last all night tonight. As we move into the overnight, skies will begin to clear out, bringing us a chance at some nice sunshine to start of Saturday. But when we get clear skies like this with a colder air mass it leads to even colder temperatures.
Overnight temperatures will be into the mid to upper 20s and low 30s across the area, warmer where thicker cloud cover in southern parts of the area. Wind should stay light for the most part as we move into the overnight tonight, from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Skies will stay mostly clear to start the day on Saturday, which is looking like a pleasant day for most. Temperatures are still expected to be below normal through the area, with the warmest temps in northern South Dakota with the upper 50s and low 60s. To the south, we will be into the low to mid 50s, with northeast wind at 10 to 20 mph. Clouds will really pick up as we move into the late evening and overnight into the day on Sunday, which will bring in some rain showers by the very early morning hours Sunday.
Rain will really pick up through the morning, which will bring in some heavier totals through the morning and into the afternoon. Temperatures will stay chill to the southeast at 10 to 20 degrees below normal. Where it is raining we will stay into the upper 30s and low 40s, but sunshine in central South Dakota will bring us the 50s again. Rain to start the day, but snow potential Sunday afternoon into Monday morning is REAL. Snow will increase through the evening with some spots seeing 2-4”, and I wouldn't be surprised with some spots even seeing heavier amounts. Stay tuned... Wind will also be an issue with northeast wind at 15 to 35 mph, keeping it much colder. Snow will wrap up Monday morning, but it will likely impact your morning commute, so be prepared!
