Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum announced Tuesday he will suspend his campaign for the Republican nomination for president.
Santorum says his decision comes after a health scare involving his youngest daughter Bella, who has a rare genetic condition called Trisomy 18. The 3-year-old girl was hospitalized over the weekend.
The Associated Press reports Santorum's exit from the race makes former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney the likely nominee. Two other candidates, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul, remain the race but lag behind Romney in delegates.
