Varilek Busy Shaking Hands On Election Day

On Tueday, voters have to decide between two democrats. Will it be Matt Varilek or Jeff Barth who gets to challenge Representative Kristi Noem for her seat in congress?

Both have campaigned hard, whether it be through traveling the state or internet ads gone viral.

And Like most days during his campaign, Matt Varilek began his day started bright and early.

U.S. House Candidate Matt Varilek said, "Started this morning at 7 o'clock, shaking hands at restaurants around town, encouraging people to get out and vote and we're going to keep on encouraging all afternoon and until the polls close tonight at seven."

One by one, he's been knocking on doors.

"Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Matt Varilek. I'm running for congress," said Varilek to one Sioux Falls Resident.

"Hello, Hi there. I am Matt Verilek and you are?" Varilek asked of another.

He was busy getting to know voters and trying to get them to know him.

Varilek said, "I used to work for Senator Johnson as well as Daschle but as I was growing up though I did lots of job like flipping burgers and delivering newspapers."

In these final hours he thinks talking to voters, even last minute, is what they need. Whether it's just a hello, shooting the breeze or talking business.

Varilek said, "Here in South Dakota I think people expect to know their candidates on a personal basis so we're trying to do that as much as we can."

Even though he's put in some long hours this campaign, he says he's ready for more.

"It's been a long road and we've traveled a lot of miles. We've had a lot of oil changes in the process but I've enjoyed every minute of it and I look forward to doing more of it in the Summer and the Fall," said Varilek.

And just like Tueday, when he goes to vote in November, he's confident you won't be seeing his opponent's but his name right next to Kristi Noem's, challenging her for her seat in Congress.

Varilek and his supporters will be at his office on 8th and Railroad Center Tueday night, waiting for the results to come in. Varilek says although confident, he's not taking anything for granted. He's just hoping for a good result.
