Big name department stores like Best Buy are boasting extreme deals this Black Friday and on Thanksgiving people in Sioux Falls proved they would rather rough it in the cold weather rather than have a nice meal inside.
However some chose to take the easy route.
Many of the tents outside the popular electronics store on Thursday were empty with no shoppers in sight.
"People are not there so what is the purpose of having a tent? They cheated!" said Teresa Ramirez of Sioux Falls.
Several shoppers left their tents throughout the day and had people hold their spot in line. However, not all the tents were empty. Some shoppers like David Havermann were determined to wait it out.
"I've been watching movies, taking lots of naps and sleeping a lot. Other than that it's not been going too bad.The wind has kicked up here recently and made it a little chilly but other than that it's been ok," said Havermann.
Havermann said that his second time around and he's learned a thing or two such as how to stay warm.
"We have a heater inside the shack and that helps out a lot," he said.
Many shoppers said they were holding spots in line so other people could enjoy the holiday.
Best Buy will open their doors at midnight for Black Friday specials.
