Police officials say officers have written the first texting-while-driving ticket since a city-wide ban was put in place nearly three months ago.
Officials say the ticket was written the afternoon of Nov. 27 in the 1600 block of South Sycamore Avenue.
Sioux Fall City Council members approved a ban on texting while driving that became effective Sept. 28. Police officials had said at the time they didn't anticipate writing many tickets because proving a crime happened would be difficult under the ordinance.
The fine for texting while driving in Sioux Falls is $95.
Sioux Falls was the first city in South Dakota to enact a ban on texting while driving. Other cities in the state are considering approving similar ordinances.
