Wednesday’s date, 12-12-12 seems to hold some sort of significance to almost everyone worldwide; but to one Sioux Falls couple, it will forever mark the day they said, “I do.”
For most, getting married on a Wednesday may seem a bit odd, but for this couple; it means so much more than that.
Just over three years ago, in September of 2009, Matt Weiss and Patricia Blaha met while attending a psychology study session at Dakota State University.
“We met through a mutual friend. We were hanging out doing homework and she was there, and we kind of hit it off from there,” says Weiss.
Well, at least that’s half of the story. Matt seemed to forget one little detail. His first impression on Patricia wasn't exactly on point.
“I was getting annoyed! I told him, I said, ‘If you’re not going to be here to study, you just need to leave,” says Blaha.
After that, Matt got his act together. Then, they hit it off.
Shortly after, they went on their first date to Dairy Queen for ice cream. That date led to a relationship, which then led to even more.
“He ended up putting a ring in some ice cream, and he proposed to me that way, so it was out of the blue,” says Blaha.
Soon, they began thinking about when to set a date. Eventually they came to a decision: 12-12-12.
For Matt, it was just a cool idea.
“Let’s wait ‘til 12-12-12. That’s a really cool date. Granted, it’s a Wednesday, but how often does 12-12-12 happen?” asks Weiss.
For Blaha, who knows just how forgetful Weiss can be at times, it was a decision based on even more than just a cool idea.
“I really needed to be sure that he remembered the date, because he’s a little forgetful,” says Blaha.
But whatever the reason, 12-12 of 2012 is certainly a day that the happy couple will never forget, no matter how forgetful they may be.
The newlyweds plan on spending their honeymoon on a later date in Hawaii, where Weiss spent most of his childhood before moving to South Dakota.
