Wolters is Summit's Player of Week

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League named South Dakota State senior Nate Wolters The Summit League Player of the week on Monday after the Jackrabbit guard led the Jackrabbits to a 70-65 upset win over No. 16 New Mexico on Saturday.

“We’re all glad to see Nate closer to getting healthy,” head coach Scott Nagy said. “It’s clear when he’s healthy how good of a player is and how much he means to our team.”

Wolters earned his 11th career award and third of the season after leading South Dakota State to its first victory over a Division I nationally-ranked opponent in history. He scored a game-high 28 points, dished out a game-high seven assists and added five rebounds in the victory over previously undefeated and No. 16 ranked New Mexico.

Wolters went 9-of-15 from the floor, 60 percent, and converted 9-of-11 shots from the free throw line. Earlier in the week, Wolters scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, with three assists in SDSU’s loss at Belmont, which entered the game ranked No. 10 in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

In addition to The Summit League honor, collegesportsmadness.com also gave Wolters the nod for its league player of the week award.

Wolters and the Jackrabbits return to Summit League play on Saturday, when they travel to Fargo, N.D., to take on North Dakota State at 7 p.m.
