Pyro City Fireworks in Sioux Falls is one of the many firework stands in South Dakota officially open for business for the upcoming holiday.
"We have customers looking for so many different things. It's such a great alternative form of entertainment. From little things for the kids to the big sky stuff to really ring in the New Year," said Kevin Lorenzen, owner of Pyro City.
Lorenzen has owned the local firework destination for 10 years and said while New Year's is a popular time for firework purchases, it's nothing compared to another favorite holiday.
“We've seen sales vary so much, but it's still a fraction of what it is during 4th of July season,” said Lorenzen.
Still, customers aren't hesitating to open their wallet to have some fun.
“Oh, I usually spend about $300-$400," said customer Marty Warns.
Warns drove 50 miles from Madison to make his purchase for the holiday
“I came down to go to Sam's is what I told my wife I was doing, with a little side trip that she'll find out about later!" said Warns.
He made sure to go out with a bang.
“I bought a lot of the multiple shots things. The kids kind of missed out on the 4th of July because we were gone this year. So I thought well maybe we'll make a little splash this year for New Year's Eve,” said Warns.
While business may not be booming yet, Lorenzen says he's not worried.
“Business has been pretty much what we anticipated. It's very slow. But just like the 4th it builds up and once we get to the holiday, a lot more people come out shopping," said Lorenzen.
This is the second year South Dakotans are able to purchase fireworks for New Year's.
