Investigators are taking a deeper look into the circumstances leading up to the fire that took the lives of three children last month.
This follows the arrest of the mother of the kids Monday. Rhiannon Shirlene White, who is 34, faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Court documents say White had both ecstasy and meth in her system at the time of the fire.
Sioux Falls Police say when dealing with a fatal fire, detectives will work with fire inspectors to determine the cause. If any criminal activity develops as part of the investigations, police will assist.
Because of White’s arrest on drug charges, officials will be taking that into consideration as the investigation continues.
The kids ages 17,12, and seven died on the second floor of their home December 22.
White and her husband escaped the fire through a second floor window.
White told police she used meth because she was rundown and exhausted.
Jail officials confirm White was released on a $5,000 bond.
