Complaints regarding Todd Struwe's job performance had been presented to the County Commission in recently. Struwe told the newspaper he had no comment about his resignation.
During a December commission meeting, Sheriff Marty Stanwick and Brookings Police Chief Jeff Miller said Struwe did not take initiative during a Dec. 9 blizzard that left dozens of motorists stranded in the city.
Commissioners did not discuss the issues in open session but later met in executive session for personnel issues.
