SD Tourism Industry's Economic Impact Up 5 Percent

Gov. Dennis Daugaard says the South Dakota tourism industry's impact on the state economy was nearly $2 billion last year, up 5 percent from the previous year.
Daugaard says the tourism industry generated about $291 million in state and local tax revenue last year, about 19 percent of total taxes.
The governor also says 27,731 jobs were generated by South Dakota's tourism industry last year, or about one of every 11 jobs in the state.
The report on tourism's impact on South Dakota's economy was released in conjunction with the state's annual tourism conference.
Daugaard says that for every dollar the state spends on advertising South Dakota as a vacation destination, it gets back $5 in taxes.
