Bookmark and Share

On Monday, President Barack Obama took a ceremonial oath of office in Washington, D.C. during the Presidential Inauguration.

During the President's Inaugural speech, he said in his second term he plans to look at ways to respond to climate change...reduce the cost of healthcare and reduce the size of our deficit.

U.S. Senator John Thune said the Inauguration represents a new beginning, a fresh start, and ways they can work together to do big things for the country.

"I hope the President will work with us to pun in place spending reforms that will drive down our deficit, lower the amount of debt were piling on to future generations, get the economy growing again," said Senator Thune.

Thune also said he hopes Obama finds ways to drive healthcare costs down and in regards to immigration, create legal ways to get people into this country, but not continue to encourage illegal immigration.

U.S. Representative Kristi Noem sent a statement to KDLT News following the President's Inaugural speech, which said, "As the President said today, we face many difficult challenges. I am hopeful that today's continuation of American democracy will inspire both sides to work together to reduce our debt, rein in our spending and secure a brighter future for our children and grandchildren,” said Noem.

KDLT News reached out to U.S. Senator Tim Johnson but did not hear back.
