SF United Way Surpasses Their Goal

Bookmark and Share

It was a big day for the Sioux Empire United Way Tuesday. The organization not only met but exceeded their fundraising goal this year.

In a press conference at Captial One Financial Corporation, the United Way announced that they crossed the finish line. After looking at their needs, they set a goal of just over $9,725,000 dollars. Within just a few months, with the help of 700 businesses and 800 volunteers, the organization brought in just over $9,800,227 dollars. With the funds, United Way will be able to support 96 different programs.

Volunteer Board Chair with U.S. Bank Carl Wynja said, "These programs touch one out of every three people in the community. Amazing numbers, and sometimes we forget all the different things that it's doing in the community but one out of every three of us have had an impact on one out of three of us, on either us or a family member from these programs we support."

For the 18th year in a row, the Sioux Empire has achieved their goal. The Sioux Empire United Way, which reaches Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha and Turner counties, ranks 2nd in the nation in per capita giving.

Campaign Chair with Capital One David Long said, "I got to hear a lot about the agencies that we support, the people that we serve and I also got to reaffirm my belief that this is the greatest community in the United States."
