Police say a Sioux Falls mother kicked her children, including a neighbor kid and nephew, out of her home for fighting over toys.
According to Officer Sam Clemens, 33-year-old Kiyanne Arpan of Sioux Falls had been drinking early Sunday morning at around 1:30 a.m. with her 24-year-old boyfriend at their apartment on the 700 block East 6th Street when the children began to fight. That's when Arpan tried to kick them out of the home and into the cold.
Police say when the boyfriend's 42-year-old mother tried to stick up for the children, Arpan pushed her to the ground and the boyfriend punched his mother.
The mother took the children to a neighbor's house, where she called police.
Arpan was arrested on two counts of abuse/cruelty to a minor under 7 and four counts of abuse/cruelty to a minor over 7. She is also facing a simple assault charge.
Police say her children, who she kicked out of the home, were all boys ranging from age 4 to 11. There was a 10-year-old girl also asleep inside the home at the time.
According to police, the home was found to be unsuitable for children. Police found garbage throughout the home, as well as beer cans. They say the home also smelled of urine.
When police arrived, the boyfriend had already left but he will likely face charges.
