Charges Dismissed In Schirado Case

Charges against a former South Dakota school board president and her husband have been dismissed.

The State announced on Thursday that they have filed a Dismissal Without Prejudice in the case of Stave v. Michelle & Bryan Schirado.  A dismissal "without prejudice" allows for the state to pursue charges in the future.

Tom Wollman, the Lincoln County State's Attorney, says that the dismissal stems from a key witness for the State currently being at a "critical stage" in his military training. Wollman says that taking the witness from his training at this point would cause "significant hardship against his military career."

Michelle Schirado is the former president of the school board in Harrisburg, S.D., southeast of Sioux Falls. Last May, more than 20 teenagers were cited for drinking on the Schirados' property a day after Harrisburg High School held its graduation ceremony.
 
Michelle Schirado was president of the school board when the incident happened. She's still on the board, but she is no longer the president.
