SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Head coach Jerry Olszewski announced today the signing of 36 student-athletes for the 2013 football season.

Wednesday is the first day of the signing period for all NCAA football programs.

The 2013 class includes student-athletes from Minnesota (14), South Dakota (6), Nebraska (5), Colorado (3), Iowa (3), Florida (1), Illinois (1), Kansas (1), Oklahoma (1) and Wisconsin (1). The class also includes eight defensive lineman, seven linebackers, seven wide receivers, five defensive backs, two quarterbacks, two tight ends, two offensive lineman, one running back, one fullback, one kicker/punter.

“I am proud to welcome the 2013 class of Augustana Football,” Olszewski said. “This group of young men are deep with talent, character, academic excellence and leadership. I feel that our staff addressed the needs of our football program and in doing so added team speed and athleticism to our current roster.  I truly believe this is a foundation class of great things to come for Augustana Football. We have our work cut out to enter the upper echelon of teams in Division II. These student-athletes are competitors that will work tirelessly to do just that and represent the Augustana community incredibly well. It is a great day to be a Viking.”

The 2013 signing class is the first under Olszewski, who enters his first season as Augustana’s head coach in 2013.

Augustana finished at 5-6 in 2012, which was good for a ninth-place finish in the 16-team conference. The Vikings were 3-4 in the NSIC South Division, tying for fourth-place in the eight-team division.
