KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Kansas City made 12 three-pointers and got 20 points on the inside from center

Fred Chatmon in an 80-65 win against South Dakota Saturday at the Swinney Recreation Center. The win ended a five-game skid for the Kangaroos (7-19, 4-8 Summit) while the Coyotes’ (8-16, 4-8) streak reached four games.

Nate Rogers made five 3-pointers and had 17 points for Kansas City, which made 25 treys in two games against South Dakota this season. UMKC was 12 of 24 from beyond the arc Saturday. The ‘Roos have averaged five three’s on 32 percent shooting against all other opponents.

Trevor Gruis led South Dakota with 17 points. Juevol Myles had 13 points – all in the second half – and Brandon Bos chipped in 11. The ‘Yotes were 4 of 16 from 3-point range and finished 13 of 43 from long distance during their three-game road trip.

Chatmon made all three of his field goals and all three free throws in the first half as the ‘Roos took a 38-31 lead into halftime. He finished 7 of 8 from the field and had seven rebounds.

Myles scored the first four points of the second half, but Kurt Korver and Estan Tyler combined to score the next six for Kansas City. Korver had three treys and 15 points. Tyler had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

South Dakota couldn’t get within eight points in the final 16 minutes despite 10 free throws and 44 percent shooting. Kansas City’s 7 of 11 effort from long range stopped any comeback effort. The ‘Roos lead hovered between 13-17 points over the final nine minutes.
