Many athletes don't admit to feeling pressure.
Pierre's Lane Severyn thrives on it.
"It's nice to have the pressure just knowing that you have to come out every night, play your hardest, and compete. That's what gets victories done in the postseason and regular season." Severyn says.
And it makes the Govs' senior a terror on all ends of the floor.
"He is just relentless. I mean offensively he's a guy that will get points in so many different ways. I mean the first thing you think about is the three point shooting. He is the all time leading three point shooter in our school. Right now he's the all time leading rebounder in our school history. That speaks for what kind of game that guy really has." Pierre Head Coach Terry Becker says.
Teamed with Creighton-bound Zach Hanson, the Governors' high expectations took a hit when the team started two-and-four.
"We're kind of used to it with the target on our back. We just got to take care of business. I like the added pressure." Severyn said.
And Lane has raised his game, helping the Govs win 10 of their last 11.
"He's more of a perimeter player but at the same time he can get in there and rebound and play physical with anybody. I've loved playing with him every minute." Hanson says.
"Lane and Zach were freshman that we had to throw into the fire and we were 2-20 that season. It toughened them up." Becker says.
Before trading Pierre green and gold for SDSU blue and gold next year, there's work to be done.
"If it's a close game we get second, I might be able to live with it. Take a while to stomach it. But I definetly want to go out on top." Severyn says.
If the pressure's on Lane, don't bet against it.
