Authorities have released the name of a man who died in Thursday's accident on 41st and Minnesota. 32 year old Troy M. Hohn of Sioux Falls was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say around 11:50am on Thursday, a 1998 Chevy Blazer, driven by Hohn, was headed north at an extremely high rate of speed and struck a Dodge Durango, which was pushed into a Chevrolet pickup, which was pushed into a Buick. The Buick was pushed into two eastbound vehicles on 41st Street that were crossing the intersection. The first of the eastbound vehicles was a 2012 Ford pickup in the outside lane and a 1996 Chevy minivan in the inside lane. The previously stopped Buick struck the Ford pickup which was then pushed into the Chevy minivan.
After the Chevy Blazer struck the Dodge Durango, it veered into the Taylor’s Pantry gas station located on the southeast corner, struck a large sign surrounded by cement landscaping blocks, vaulted off the sign, struck a parked, unoccupied Chrysler minivan and came to a rest upside down near the gas pumps. A small fire that started from the collision on the Blazer was quickly extinguished by first responders.
All five occupants of the Dodge Durango and the driver of the Chevy pickup were transported to several local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities say it is still unclear why the Chevy Blazer was traveling at a high rate of speed. The investigation is continuing.
