SDSU Seniors Savor Final Home Game

Bookmark and Share

BROOKINGS, S.D.  --  A sellout senior day crowd at Frost Arena said goodbye and thank you to Nate Wolters and Tony Fiegen.

And the two cornerstones of SDSU's basketball rebirth were happy to say "you're welcome".

"I don't know, it's starting to sink in now that the adrenaline is wearing off I think and it's just been such an incredible experience it kind of, it'll be one of the best experiences of my life."  Fiegen says.

SDSU's 64-55 win over Western Illinois is their 30th consecutive victory within the friendly confines of Frost Arena.  It's the second longest homecourt win streak in the nation.  More importantly, the victory moved the Jacks into first place in the Summit League.  If they win their final conference game at UNO on November 28th they will clinch the title and top seed at the Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls on March 9th.

"I mean the crowd's been great all my years here, when we were struggling first couple.  But yeah the last couple months have been amazing, it's made the games so much more fun, and I mean the atmosphere today was probably the best I've ever seen it."  Wolters says.

It was a fitting sendoff for Wolters and Fiegen.  Prior to their arrival on the SDSU campus for the 2009-10 season the men's basketball program had gone 36-85 over the previous four seasons.

Since their arrival SDSU is 81-43 with one Summit League championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.

"They certainly helped lift our program to a different level and hopefully we can stay there.  But it's more about the kind of people they are and that they will be in the future regardless of what they do and where they go, we know they'll have great impact."  SDSU Head Coach Scott Nagy says.
