Officials Called To Fire, Dispute

Bookmark and Share

A Hartford family of four has been displaced after their home was severely damaged by fire early Sunday morning.

Fire officials say they were called the home at 26345 463rd Avenue, just south of Hartford at around 4:45 a.m. Officials say when they arrived, the residents were already outside of the home, unharmed. However, there was smoke and flames coming from the home's ceiling above the first floor.  Crews had the fire under control in about 15 minutes but remained at the scene for several hours to make sure there weren't any hot spots.

Todd Lowe with the Hartford Fire and Rescue said, “The fire damage was extensive fire damage to the second floor, and minimal damage to the first floor.”

The Hartford Fire and Rescue, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, and Humboldt Fire Department were all on scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A few hours later, The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office says they were called to the same house at 26345 463rd Avenue near Hartford. The sheriff's office says they were called to the home for a family dispute, just before 11:30 a-m.

When deputies tried to take Kim Halverson, into custody, he pulled a knife out of his pocket and displayed it to the officers. More units from the sheriff's office and the highway patrol arrived to assist the officers. After about 30 minutes, Halverson surrendered to the officers.

He is being charged with simple assault domestic, aggravated assault on law enforcement, and resisting arrest.
