POINT LOOKOUT, MO -- The Cinderella run by the Dakota State men's basketball team at the NAIA Division 2 National Tournament lives on.
In a game that featured 18 ties, a Tyrone Gordon rebound and putback with 31 seconds left in regulation lifted Dakota State past St. Thomas (FL) 61-60 in the second round of the NAIA D2 Tournament in Point Lookout, Missouri.
St. Thomas had three shots at the end to win the game. Floyd Battle missed a three with 13 seconds left but St. Thomas got the offensive rebound and called timeout. With three seconds left, Kevin Hincapie missed a two-point shot and, despite an offensive rebound, Battle missed another three at the end of regulation.
Luke Lamb led the Trojans with 14 points. Cameron Krump was the only other DSU player in double figures with 11 points.
Dakota State will face Grace (Ind.) in the Elite 8 tomorrow at 7 PM.
