Augustana Men & Women Make NCAA Tournament

SIOUX FALLS --  Both Augustana basketball teams will be a part of March Madness in the NCAA Division 2 National Tournament.

Augustana women’s basketball earned the No. 6 seed for the NCAA Central Region Tournament and play No. 3 seed Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday.  The Vikings finished are 24-6 and won the NSIC/Sanford Health Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday night by defeating Minnesota State. 
 
The Central Region is comprised of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and Great American Conference (GAC).
 
The Vikings will travel to Topeka, Kan. after Washburn earned the No. 1 seed and will host the region and face No. 8 seed and MIAA-auto bid winner Emporia State.
 
Joining Augustana and Concordia-St. Paul from the NSIC is Minnesota State who earned the No. 4 seed and will face GAC member Arkansas Tech.
 
If the Vikings win they will face the winner of No. 2 seed Central Missouri (MIAA) and No. 7 seed Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday.

Augustana is heading to the NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Central Region, the NCAA announced Sunday.

The Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), Great American Conference (GAC) and the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).

The Vikings will face No. 6 seed Upper Iowa on Saturday, March 16, at 12 p.m..

The region tournament will be held March 16-19, and will be hosted by Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn.

Augustana (21-8) will be making its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and its 11th in school history. The Vikings have made two appearances in the region championship game in 2008-09 and 2009-10.  Augustana is 8-12 all-time in NCAA postseason competition.

Augustana finished third in the NSIC and reached the semifinals of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament. Since joining the NSIC in 2008-09, Augustana has qualified for the NSIC Tournament every year, but had not won an NSIC tournament game until this year.

Tickets for the regional are $15 for reserved seats, $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, children (ages 5-17) and college students with valid student IDs. Tickets can be purchased online at msumavericktickets.com beginning Monday, at 12 p.m. Tickets will not be mailed but fans have the option of printing their own tickets online or they will be available for pick-up at the MSU Athletics Office between the hours of 8 a.m., and 4 p.m. Tickets that are not picked up can be claimed at Taylor Center Will Call on the day of the game. Online ticket availability closes at 9 p.m., the day prior to each session.
