Students at South Dakota State University continue to celebrate their big win from Tuesday night. Both the men and women’s basketball teams took home the Summit League Championship trophies after two intense games.
“Go big, go blue, go Jacks,” said Kyle Rokeh, a freshman at SDSU.
The excitement of Tuesday’s double win spilled over into Wednesday’s school day at SDSU.
"I am very excited. I think its awesome and I am so proud of them,” said Ally Calmus, a senior at SDSU.
“I am ecstatic,” said Rokeh.
“Jackrabbits (are) number one,” said Erin Moser, a junior at SDSU.
“You know, its pretty positive right now, and I think the campus is buzzing,” said Trui Waltner, sophomore at SDSU.
For the second year the Jackrabbits dominated the hardwood, taking the Summit League Championship trophies back to Brookings for both their men and women’s teams. And students could be seen sporting blue and yellow all over campus for a win they said they knew was coming.
“It was a great atmosphere for the Jacks, we had a home court advantage for sure,” said Waltner.
“It's hard to lose in an atmosphere like that, and obviously it didn’t happen this year, and it didn’t happen last year, which is pretty crazy,” said Rokeh.
And they have a message for their rivals to the north and south, who they said crumbled under the pressure of all that Jackrabbit spirit.
“Come back for more next year,” said Waltner.
“They did play great overall, but at the end of the day we won,” said Moser.
“I'm just happy we got the wins, and we are moving on, and they aren't,” said Rokeh.
“Yeah sorry. Sorry I'm not sorry,” said Calmus.
But knowing that their team is now representing South Dakota on a national stage, they had one more thing to say.
“Good luck to the guys and girls at the big dance, I am really excited that they are going to March Madness,” Moser said.
“We are super proud of you, and we are all rooting for you,” Calmus said.
On Selection Sunday we will find out when and where the Jacks will be playing in the NCAA Tournament.
