Fatal Accident In McCook County

One person died in a two-vehicle crash on South Dakota Highway 42 about 10 miles east of the junction with U.S. Highway 81 on Thursday.

A 2008 KIA Sedona was traveling east on Highway 42 when a northbound 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck stopped at the stop sign on 447th Avenue and then pulled onto the highway to turn west. The KIA struck the trailer of the semi-truck.

The driver of the KIA was not wearing a seat belt. He was dead at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.

Names are being withheld until relatives have been notified. No further information is immediately available.
 
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. McCook County Sheriff’s Office and McCook County Emergency Management assisted.
