TEMPE, Ariz. – Megan Glisar, Bethany Buell and Jeff O’Connell all started their outdoor seasons with wins while competing at the Arizona State Invitational on Saturday at the Joe Selleh Track in Tempe, Ariz.
Glisar set a new school outdoor record in the women’s high jump by jumping six feet (6-0). Her height tied the meet record and moved her into first in the NCAA Division I West Region standings. USD freshman Taryn Derickson added a third-place finish in the event with a 5-5¼ jump.
USD also had two top-five finishes in the women’s pole vault. Bethany Buell set a new meet record with a vault 14-4½ and Emily Grove finished fifth with a 12-8¼ vault. Jeff O’Connell took the men’s long jump title with a leap of 23-11¼, which is eighth-best in the region. It was the best mark the sophomore has had at an outdoor meet in his Coyote career, beating his previous best by a foot.
Two Coyotes recorded a pair of top five finishes. Alexa Duling finished fourth in the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.40 (10th-best time in region) and fifth in the women’s 100 hurdles in 14.08. Cody Snyder was third in the men’s discus with a 180-4 mark and fourth in the men’s shot put with a 57-0¼ mark. Both of Snyder’s marks rank eighth in the region.
