New Bldg. To Host SF Food Giveaways

Bookmark and Share

Their generosity helps hundreds in the Sioux Empire every week, and now Faith Temple Church food giveaways will no longer have to take place in parking lots or at temporary locations.

A new building is being designated for the weekly distribution at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds, however, the fair board is lacking money for completion.

A new structure stands tall at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds called the Nordstrom-Johnson Multi-Purpose Building, and the new facility has a big purpose, to be the permanent home for the Faith Temple Church Friday food giveaways.

"I and my family have been going to Faith Temple for a little over 35 years," said Nordstrom.

With the help of Art Nordstrom & his wife, building costs for the facility have been covered.

”They started the food giveaway four years ago and it was out in the parking lot, two years ago, we brought it out here to the fairgrounds,” said Nordstrom.

However, there’s one little problem, the building has no utilities and they're in need of $50-60,000.00 worth.

"We need an extra expense to get water into the building, sewer into the building, gas into the building.

We got the building, it will be done next week, but we can't get the utilities to it because we don't have the money," said Nordstrom.

Right now the building is running on temporary electricity through a drop cord connected to the armory across the way.

“It’s a, kind of a once in a lifetime type thing, for someone that wanted to contribute, especially in the higher amounts, you're going to be part of the history of this building," said Nordstrom.

“We’re extremely excited and we're extremely thankful," said Hayes.

Pastor Jeff Hayes with Faith Temple Church can't wait to have their own standalone building, one that meets all of their needs.

“There’s a truck port, we can pull the truck in, close the door, we're not feeling the north wind also its long enough to accommodate all our people and our tables and food too," 9:16:04 said Hayes.

A new building for an organization dedicated to helping thousands in need throughout the Sioux Empire.

"I just think it's going to be a great thing for Minnehaha County and for the city of Sioux Falls because this whole grounds is a needed asset for the city of Sioux Falls," said Nordstrom.

Anyone who donates $1,000.00 or more will receive a personalized plaque recognizing their contribution which will be mounted on a wall inside the multi-purpose building.

If you would like to donate, checks should be made out to Friends of the Fair and mailed to the Sioux Empire Fair Office, 100 N. Lyon Blvd., Sioux Falls, SD 57107.
