Man In Custody After Standoff In Sioux Falls

Bookmark and Share

Police were called to the IU General Store at East 3rd Street in Sioux Falls just after 1 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Sioux Falls police, a man entered the convenience store armed with a gun. Police say the owner of the store received minor injuries during the attempted robbery. When police arrived on the scene, the man got into a standoff with police from inside the store.

Non-lethal tactics were used to apprehend the subject. He was taken into custody at around 3:15 Saturday afternoon.

“Detectives now are continuing to make sure we follow up on all of our leads to make sure we don't have any more accomplices or anyone we need to round up as far as the robbery goes,” said Sergeant Aaron Nyberg of the Sioux Falls Police Department.

According to police, there were no hostages involved in the incident. However, an additional person was also arrested.

A police officer also suffered a knee injury during the standoff and was taken to the hospital.

Nearby streets were shut down during the standoff.
