Augie Aims For 3rd Straight NSIC Tourney Title

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --  One of the few spring sports that is not impacted by bad weather has actually turned themselves into a dynasty.

The Augustana women's tennis team is three wins away from an NSIC Tournament three peat.

The Vikings were a perfect 12-0 in regular season league play, bringing home their fourth consecutive title.

Tomorrow in Minnetonka they'll look to take home their third straight tournament title.

It's all been part of a building process that raised this program from the ground up, building depth throughout the roster.

And now the Vikings see the fruits of their labor.

"But it's also, you know, the end of the season and so I think that's fun too because we can see the finish line and all of our hard work is kind of leading up to this point."  Junior Katie Jesperson says.

"Well my freshman year me and the other seniors came in and didn't know what to expect just because the team hadn't had a good history just with winning and doing well in the conference.  Now, my senior year, we've luckily gotten really deep in the team so we're strong all the way through."  Senior Hannah Gebauer says.

"I think quite honestly this is the strongest team that we've ever had and possibly strongest team that's ever been at Augustana on the women's side.  Very talented team all the way down.  I mean, even our lower players would be top players on a lot of the other teams in our conference."  Head Coach Marc Kurtz says.

Augie opens the tournament against crosstown rival Sioux Falls at two tomorrow.  The winner gets either MSU-Mankato or Northern State in the Semifinals on Sunday.
