Yankton A Perfect Fit For IFAA Championships

Bookmark and Share

YANKTON, S.D. -- Half a globe and 42 hours separate Yankton, South Dakota from Johannesburg, South Africa.

"I've heard of South Dakota.  I read a lot of cowboy stories growing up!"  South Africa's Jeannine Howse says.

And those aren't the only differences.

"(Have you ever seen snow before?)  No!  No!  No!" South African natives Kelly Vallun, William and Tameryn Shaw say.

But for South Africa and 11 other countries at this weekends I-F-A-A World Indoor Archery Championships, it's the place to be.

"I think that you get the sense that it is small town compared to big city America.  But I'm sure I'll learn more as I go along."  Howse says.

True, Yankton's not the first place they imagined coming, but with one of the world's finest archery facilities, it's the perfect place for it.

"The top level coaches train here.  We've got athlete training, we've got junior olympic archery development programs.  Everything happens here."  NFAA President & Yankton Resident Bruce Cull says.

And whether they're 85 years to five years old....

"This is my chicken.  If you mess up you get him."  Vallun says.

...Fun....

"(So this is the prize for being the worst?) Yeah if you mess up like shoot an arrow in to the wall or something."  Vallun says.

...and making new friends...

"Meeting new people from anywhere.  It's amazing!"  Yankton's Gabby Keiser says.

"I like it because you get more people to know and learn more stuff from them!"  Shaw says.

...always hit the mark.
