Rocamora Blast 5 HR's for Northern!

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Playing the first home games of the season on Friday, Northern State junior Robbie Rocamora put together his own personal home run derby, but it wasn't enough to propel the Wolves past the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, who claimed a doubleheader sweep with 12-4 and 19-9 (7 innings) wins.

Rocamora blasted a triple in his first at bat of the day and was off to the races after that.  The right-handed hitter led off the third inning of Game 1 with a solo blast to straight away center, putting the final run of the game on the board for the Wolves and cutting the UMD lead to 6-4.

The Bulldogs responded with six unearned runs in the top of the fourth to make it a 12-4 game.  That score would stand as the final tally for the series opener.

Rocamora was anything but done for the day, going 4-for-4 with four home runs in Game 2.  He hit a pair of solo blasts in his first two at bats, then followed with a two-run shot in the fifth and a long three-run shot in the sixth.

Cameron Lehner and Clayton Nutting joined the round-trip party with solo shots of their own, giving the Wolves six in the game and seven on the day.

UMD, however, put together a two big innings in the third and fourth stanzas, plating seven in the third and five in the fourth to jump out front. The Bulldogs did all of their damage in those innings with two outs.

After Rocamora closed the lead to 15-9 with his 3-run bomb in the sixth, the Bulldogs also got in on the act, responding with a 3-run shot in the top of the seventh to cap a four-run rally.  That shot made it 19-9 and UMD reliever Chris Couillard sent the Wolves down in order in the bottom half of the inning to end the game.

Northern State slips to 14-26 on the season and 7-19 in NSIC play with Friday's setbacks.  UMD moves to 13-23 overall and 13-9 in the loop.

The two teams return to the field to close out the four-game series and regular season tomorrow with another doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. at Fossum Field.
