The month of May marks motorcycle safety month. And as the weather gets nicer, there’s no doubt we are going to see more on the road.
Police suggest motorists start paying more attention to the vehicles around them. They said motorcycles tend to hide in blind spots, so always double check those when changing lanes or turning. Officials also said if you’re driving a motorcycle, be aware of your surroundings as well. And they also said even though there isn’t laws enforcing it always wear a helmet.
“A lot people like to take the helmet off, but you're taking a chance, you're taking a risk. You don't have any protection when you're riding a motorcycle, at least the helmet could give you a fighting chance,” said Officer Sam Clemens, Sioux Falls Police Department.
Police said it is also very important drivers take it slow. There is a lot of extra congestion due to construction.
