Building Demolition Causes Problems

Bookmark and Share

A building demolition in Downtown Mitchell has been causing quite the mess for its neighbors.

The condemned 134 year-old former Longhorn Bar, located at the corner of First and Main, shares a wall with the VFW Hall next door.

The wall, which is in very bad shape, forced the project to stop dead in its tracks as contractors were concerned that the adjacent structure could possibly collapse on its own.

“We’re just working with the city and with the contractor to get it done and hopefully when it’s done, we’ll still have a VFW here for the veterans of Mitchell,” says Patrick Ziegler, commander at the Mitchell VFW Post.

The demolition was set for completion by May 15, but thanks to the long winter and damaged wall; it may take a little while longer and cost quite a bit more.
