The severe weather that moved through the region has left damage in its path and dozens without power.
Beadle County Emergency Management director Tom Moeding says that a semi has been turned over on Highway 14 outside of Huron, numerous trees are down and power is out to some areas.
Northwestern Energy posted a statement on their website saying that they will begin restoring power as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, the power company is instructing customers to treat downed lines as energized. The company says that Alpena, Woonsocket and Lane are experiencing "extended outages" that may extend into Saturday.
KDLT Reporter Jeff Rusack says that power is out in most of DeSmet and Lake Preston.
In Watertown, winds gusted over 80 miles per hour and took down branches and power lines.
So far, there have been 12 reports of tornados in South Dakota.
A tornado watch that had been issued for Eastern South Dakota has been cancelled. Severe weather is again possible tomorrow.
Damage reports are coming in from around the Sioux Empire Friday evening.
