A South Dakota teenager accused of shooting and wounding another teen has been freed after posting $5,000 bail.
Eighteen-year-old Logan Evans, of Plankinton, is due in court next month on charges of aggravated assault and reckless discharge of a firearm. He could face up to 16 years in prison if convicted. Defense attorney Rebecca Millan declined comment to The Associated Press.
Authorities say Evans was driving on Interstate 90 between Mitchell and Alexandria on Saturday when he pointed a 9 mm pistol at Nick Lawson and pulled the trigger as a joke, thinking the gun was unloaded. Hanson County Sheriff's Deputy Casey Tegethoff tells The Daily Republic (http://bit.ly/12gKO3k ) newspaper that Evans got the gun as a high school graduation present.
Lawson's condition hasn't been released.
